Keeping up with the Joneses

Adams update

So, lots of you are probably wondering what the heck is going on at the “new house.”  A big thanks should go to Shane, who spent most of the weekend scraping off by hand what was left of the original wallpaper in the front parlor in what has been a several month process (that wallpaper really, really did not want to come off).  Today, work begins to restore the plaster (we’re told it’s a 4 day project).  After that, we’ll be choosing paint colors and getting most of the interior painted.  Alas, no more bugs or bunnies on the wall in the bedrooms.  We are also working with our architects Erin and Stacie (http://www.reforminc.com/) on plans for the addition.  They are creative and enthusiastic ladies– Erin listens as fast as I talk, which is perfect!

We still have not sold the “old house,” and we are definitely tired of making the bed every day and making sure that all the dishes and clutter are cleaned up before we go anywhere.  Keep your fingers crossed for us that it won’t be much longer…

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend.  While Shane stripped wallpaper, C and I checked out the new neighborhood pool.  While the water was freezing, we are excited to have such a great amenity so close by.  The pool has a “zero-entry” shallow area with fountains for the little ones and is going to be a great place to spend hot summer days once that water warms up a little.

Seriously?

I’ve been MIA for a month??  My, how time flies.  Well, I’ll try to bring you up to speed.  We spent a lovely week at the beach May 10 through 17, and so we spent much, much time during the weeks before trying to finish up work and get organized so that we could actually leave work at work.  I think we were mostly successful.

Anyway, about the beach… we visited peaceful Grayton Beach, Florida for some much-needed relaxation.  It was a bit cool, and the water was downright cold, but that didn’t stop us from spending every possible moment in the sand and/or surf.  Carson surprised us with her complete lack of fear at the waves, which were quite high at times.  She wanted to be in the water, and she didn’t necessarily want to be held.  She loved the pool, too.  She made sand castles, chased the birds down the beach, threw and caught (sort of) the football, and hung out with us in the hammock (if only for a second).  She told us that the sharks were “dangerous” and could “hurt Carson,” but she also mentioned that they were “shy” so we probably wouldn’t see them.  She ate onions for the first time, too (and seemed to love them).   She was a very good sport for the 5-hour car ride, even though she didn’t sleep for a second on the way down.  She pointed out every cow, horse, goat, bird, and piece of road kill we passed.  I’ll try to get some pictures up soon (happily, none are of road kill).

Otherwise, we are just really enjoying the time we have together.  Carson has transformed into a little girl, instigating conversations and asking and answering questions.  She likes to pick out her clothes, which results in some unfortunate outfits at times, but you have to admire a girl for trying and for expressing her own unique fashion sense.

Hope all are doing well and looking forward to a nice Memorial Day weekend.
