No time to write at the moment, but enjoy a few pictures from the weekend in Sky Valley as well as some pre-Oakhurst Halloween party shots.

Want some pumpkin bread?

Posted in Uncategorized by khj334 on the October 21, 2008

Carson and I made pumpkin bread on Sunday.  She helped me measure the water and count the eggs.  She also spilled half a cup of vegetable oil on the rug while my back was turned, but she was kind enough to say, “I spilled the oil, mama.  I’m sorry.”  After the bread baked for what seemed like an eternity, she sat down at the table with a piping hot slice and some milk.  I had sampled enough of the goods while slicing, and so did not serve myself.  Carson held out her plate to me and asked, “Want some pumpkin bread?”  It was amazing because it is one of the first times I can recall that C has asked me a question of this type.  Of course, she’s asked me questions before– like “Where is Munson?” or “what are we gonna do today?”  But this sweet little question seemed to embody such concern for my well-being.

Carson is excited about her trip to the mountains this weekend.  She asked when we were going, and I told her that we would leave on Thursday.  Her little face crumpled up– I thought she was going to cry as she said, “We have Spanish on Thursday!”  Of course I assured her that we would leave only after Spanish was over.  What a love of learning!

I got tagged

Posted in Uncategorized by khj334 on the October 9, 2008

So Kelly D. tagged me on her Blog to answer a series of questions about myself.  I’m supposed to answer and tag five others in response– but seeing as how she and Elizabeth (whom she also tagged) are the only other people I know with blogs, I can’t comply with that requirement.  Hopefully it’s not like breaking a chain letter and sure to bring me horrible luck.  (Does anyone remember the chain letters that involved socks, or even panties?  You would send one pair and supposedly get 6 in return.  I always thought that would be so cool, but I was never party to one that actually worked.)  Those of you reading, feel free to weigh in in the “comments” section with your own answers; maybe that will count.  In any event, here are some facts that demonstrate what an unexciting individual I am!

10 years ago I was:
1. Getting into the swing of my first year of law school
2. Living in my cute little house in Athens with no central air or heat and no dishwasher
3. Driving my red 1987 Honda Prelude (sometimes it started without jumper cables)
4. About to go to the UGA-TN game visited by ESPN GameDay, which we ended up losing 33-2 (should have taken the $300 I was offered for my ticket)
5. Far less tired, and yet not even a coffee drinker

5 things on today’s to do list:
1. Change billing address for water bills (exciting)
2. Buy some white vinegar to get spaghetti stains out of C’s shirt
3. Decide on and order C’s big girl bedding
4. Pick up car from dealer; return rental Chevy with manual locks and windows (who knew they still made cars like that??)
5. Cross some items off my “overdue” list at work

5 snacks I enjoy:
1. Trail mix with extra raisins, m&m’s, and almonds, tossing out the peanuts
2. Fuji apples with peanut butter
3. Scones and coffee
4. Popcorn and Diet Coke
5. Veggies and Ranch dressing

5 things I would do if I were a millionaire:
1. Pay off both of my mortgages
2. Build the addition we are dreaming of on the new house
3. Schedule constant sessions with Elizabeth and adorn my entire house with family photos
4. Hire someone to do my grocery shopping every week
5. Buy a vacation home in the mountains (nothing on this list is remotely philanthropic, is it?)

5 places I have lived:
1. Ft. Lauderdale, FL
2. Vero Beach, FL
3. Marietta, GA
4. Athens, GA
5. Decatur GA (very different from Marietta, plus if I don’t count it I can’t get to 5)

5 jobs I have had:
1. J. Crew Outlet, Commerce, GA (loved that job; spent more than I made)
2. Bath and Body Works, Alpharetta, GA (fun job, but hated those 2 am floor stocking shifts)
3. Georgia Telco Credit Union
4. American Honda Finance Co.
5. Alston & Bird
